Reserve Syrah 2008
| Vintage : 2008 Varieties: Syrah Area: Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay Winemaker: Tim Preston & Paul Dawick Alcohol: 13.5% Tasting Notes:
They were harvested progressively from 24th to 29th April, averaging 22.9 brix, destemmed, cold soaked for 4 days, 38% barrel fermented in integrale and the balance in stainless steel tank. Fourteen days maceration followed and then racked to barrel for 12 months aging in quality oak (80% French, 20% American, 50% new). Bottling took place on July 1st 2009 under screwcap. This classic deep ruby-red Syrah is attractively scented with aromas of sweet black berry fruits and toffee, black pepper and liquorice. The palate is full bodied, rich and smooth, with supple tannins, oak complexity and intense flavours of plum and blackberry, laced with mocha, liquorice and spicy black pepper. Already immensely enjoyable, it will continue to flourish and reward cellaring for up to 5 years.
